Demandbase
OVERVIEW
During the Spring of 2021, I interned at Demandbase on their ABM Platform, Sales Insights, and Analytics team. I was working on UI treatments for the company’s go-to-market dashboard features.
I worked with PMs and Engineering to clean up broken flows, tested designs in staging and updated design documentation on Jira.

SUCCESS METRICS
-
Collaborating with a PM helped clarify areas that needed improvement, like revising checkbox labels to make them clearer and more concise.
-
Due to the visual load of each task, tooltips were supplemented to certain fields to guide users, ensuring they could quickly access helpful information without disrupting their workflow.
-
Worked with devs to test designs in staging before shipping in production.

PROJECT 1
Email subscriptions call-to-action
Demandbase allows you to create customized reports or snapshot subscriptions to send through email or Slack. You can specify who receives the subscription, the frequency, and the duration.
THE ASK
‘Do not deliver before’ and ‘Expires on’ could be simplified for clarity and scanability.
SOLUTION
Similar to the ‘Schedule Delivery’ button found in email design, I added a ‘Schedule Delivery” CTA button with a tooltip and changed the copy to ‘Start Date’ and ‘End Date’.
Tooltips provide more context
Commonly found across Demandbase’s platform since they help to provide context without adding visual noise to the presently complex nature of go-to-market software.
PROJECT 2
Engagement Minutes trend
Businesses can view Engagement Minute trends to see how much their target accounts engage with their company.
This involves tracking their responses to marketing efforts, website visits, product use, and sales team conversations.
THE ASK
The ‘Marketing Engagement’ and ‘Sales Engagement’ buttons on the native charts look like an either-or toggle, but it's actually multi-select.
SOLUTION
Make these toggles more intuitive
I designed a new toggle UI that included a dash icon for the “Marketing Engagement” and “Sales Engagement” buttons to differentiate the two.
I also made improvements to the documentation and communicated with engineering to make sure that it was clear to the user that they could select both.
PROJECT 3
The power of tooltips on Salesforce
Businesses can integrate Salesforce with Demandbase by letting users enter credentials like OAuth Type, Consumer Key, and Custom Domain.
Enabling the "Active" toggle syncs the data, allowing Demandbase to access Salesforce info for targeted marketing and sales analysis.
THE ASK
Users are confused as to why a ‘Salesforce’ integration is an option if the default state is inactive.
SOLUTION
Using tooltips to increase clarity
I added an informative tooltip for ‘Active’ to make it clear that this integration is only available when ‘Active’ is switched on.
I also switched the toggle button to off for its default state and swapped the original trash can icon for one that matches the design system.
LEARNINGS
Sometimes, there's no need to reinvent the wheel. First, leverage best practices before creating something from scratch.
01. Adopting best practices can save time
As an early-career designer, it’s easy to fall into the trap of creating something entirely new. However, leveraging best practices can reduce dev costs and save time. I learned the importance of incorporating feedback before diving into custom solutions, which helps streamline the design process, and is more productive.
02. The importance of documentation and maintenance
As the company was beginning to scale, I learned that things can break in the process. I learned to appreciate the part of the role that identifies these areas that need maintenance, and works to make the system more cohesive.
